Nursing Homes: Adult Family Homes are residential homes licensed by the State of Washington to care for up to six residents. Each home is unique, providing a homey, family atmosphere, home cooked nutritional meals and individualized care. The comfort of a non-institutional home features your private or shared rooms with large walk-in showers for safe, easy access. A living room, family room, dining room, and kitchen are available for the residents to call their own. Furnishings are provided or you can personalize your room to your satisfaction. Most all homes are wheelchair accessible, and provide assistance to residents with walkers or who needs stand-by assist, and most Adult Family Homes have designated outdoor covered areas.
Adult Family Homes provide room, and board, necessary supervision, and assistance with activities of daily living. Families that own and operate Adult Family Homes are families that have opened their homes to those in need. Such a person may be the frail elderly, senior adults, developmental disability or any other person with mental health needs who requires assistance. Each and every Adult Family Home is unique in its own way, by its location and structure, the type of residents that it serves, and the type of care that is offered. The Department of Social and Health Services inspects Adult Family Homes yearly, to meet educational, safety, fire, sanitation, and state regulations.
Unlike a institutionalized facility, this is your loved one’s home. As a home, they limit the number of those they care for to no more than six residents, ensuring that your family becomes part of their family – not just another resident. Home cooked meals, an on-staff or on-call RN, on-call Doctor, Activities Director and Beautician are just a few of the features that will allow you to feel at ease knowing your family is getting the most from their life, and at a rate less than what you would pay at an Assisted Living Facility or Nursing Home.
Costs are based on the specialized needs and level of care (determined by the initial assessment of the resident) and can be scaled up or down during the first thirty days of residency. A number of homes accept state pay clients.

Nursing Homes or Adult Family Homes provide a variety of services including but not limited to:
Health care: Some Adult Family Homes are owned by RNs, LPNs or MDs and most have medical assistants or CNA’s on staff. There are visiting health care professionals such as visiting nurses or visiting doctors that come in every week to every month to do regular check-ups and address any concerns there may be with any of the residents. Home health agencies also come into the Adult Family Homes for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social workers, and hospice nurses for continuing care. A podiatrist usually comes every other month.
Personal care such as bathing is provided as needed, daily dressing/undressing, medication management, incontinence care, personal hygiene, mobility assistance and nursing services are available if necessary. Hairstylists and manicurists are available in most homes on a weekly or monthly basis.
Transportation to and from shopping, medical appointments or recreational outing are available.
Laundry and housekeeping services are provided daily.

There are a variety of social activities available in an Adult Family Home. Each home encourage activities and negotiate an activity plan with each resident. Many homes have activity directors that come in to do exercise, games, arts and crafts alongside the activities each home provide themselves. Their program can include indoor and outdoor games, sing along songs, puzzles, board games, bingo, books and books on tape that are available through the traveling library, short exercise programs, sharing current event, walking, visiting with family and friends, and the list goes on.
Staffing is very important. Adult Family Homes provide 24-hour live in staff, and the ratio consists of at least 2 caregivers to 6 residents. Thus there is more one on one attention, that keep our days and nights pleasant and calm. The qualifications of their staff are at a minimum of; fundamentals of care giving, modified care giving, nurse delegation, CPR and first aid training, Specialty training in Dementia and Alzheimer’s, Mental health, and/or Developmental disabilities, and all homes go through annual continuing education. They provide professional care in a comfortable environment. All homes should be able to honor advance directives. Some homes allow small pets.
